The Ancient City is the fourth installment in the King’s Field series, and it is an action role-playing game played from the first-person perspective. Soon after the stranger offers him the Idol of Sorrow, Devian learns that he has been charged with returning the idol to the Land of Disaster and determining a way to break the curse there. One day, the prince of the Azalin Empire, Devian, gets a visit from a mysterious outsider. As a result of the king of Heladin’s misunderstanding, the idol’s dark powers were reawakened, and it became a symbol of peace once more.
A potent talisman known as the Idol of Sorrow was responsible for transforming the once-holy land, formerly the home of the Forest Folk, into the cursed Land of Disaster many years ago.
